You knew it was coming. With the onslaught of dating reality shows aimed at helping singles (and now couples) to find love—it seems that a new trend is emerging in reality world: couples counseling. Shows like VH1′s “Tool Academy” and “Tough Esteem Couples” have provided as much entertainment as they have functional relationship guidance. Though not always the best thing to do, people often assume cues from celebrities where it regards romance. But sometimes the things learned from our celebrated stars can help provide an alternate perspective.
Celebrity super-couple Heidi Klum and Seal have portrayed a sublime example of marital bliss, and are status to bring their “expertise” to the masses; they will counsel couples in a new Lifetime channel reality show, called “Love’s Divine.” It’s not difficult to imagine why the public would feel compelled to follow their disgustingly elated lead. But to that effect, there are other celebrity lovebirds that could probably provide some comely solid advice to the romantically challenged. Considering that many famous couples dissolve into thin air within a matter of “Hollywood minutes”, there are still a few from whom we’d take a few romantic cues.
Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn
These two have been together so long that Hollywood (and the rest of us) has almost forgotten that they’ve never tied the knot. Cohabitating couples (with or without kids) are considered the norm in society these days. But Kurt and Goldie’s “everlasting” bond has astonished millions. Sure, we’d occupy relationship advice from a Hollywood couple that’s been on the scene long enough to glimpse several “It” girls and guys light up the big screen. Kurt and Goldie’s apparent knack for keeping things together has largely remained a well-kept secret. Perhaps their solidity is due to the life they’ve created away from the spotlights.
Samuel Jackson and LaTanya Richardson
Aren’t you just dying to know how chameleon actor Samuel L. Jackson and his lovely wife LaTanya Richardson have managed to last in Hollywood? This pair represents the sturdier side of marriage. Going strong for three decades, these two appear to have the secret to long-lasting love. For some reason, you get the impression that silly little marital details like passing the remote control and leaving the toilet seat up are mere crumbs compared to the realities of life that this married duo has endured over the years.
Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore
Never before has a Cougar/Cub relationship in Hollywood been more respected. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher proved to the world that a “significant” age difference is nothing more than a trivial circumstance. We already had some idea of Demi Moore’s ability to keep break-ups civil. She and long-time hubby Bruce Willis maintained better-than-cordial ties following their divorce. Is it Demi’s open mind (and killer bod) that helps her stay connected to the free-spirited Ashton Kutcher? Or is it Kutcher’s playful personality that keeps Moore on her toes?
Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon
There are those Hollywood pairs who never quite disappear from the scene. They are like the punch bowl at a party—always replenished, rarely fussed over, but somehow still the the hub of the festivities. Kyra and Kevin have been a hot item since getting married in the late 80′s. And while we can only imagine what kind of romantic glue holds them together, there is something intoxicatingly accessible about the two of them. Their on and off-screen personas are such that one might comfortably sip Coronas with them whilst jabbering away about world issues. Now who wouldn’t want to take romantic advice from them?
Terry and Rebecca Crews
The name Terry Crews may be unfamiliar to you. But these movies and shows will not be: “Everybody Hates Chris” (father, Julius), White Chicks, Friday after Next…and more. In addition to that, this brawny 40-something year old is also a former NFL football player. The actor is best known for his string of comedic roles. But his recent stint in reality world with wife, Rebecca (BET’s “The Family Crews”) has revealed his tender, yet firm approach to marriage and fatherhood. If you never realized that the “Everybody Hates Chris” actor had been married for two decades, you are not alone. Some celebs like Rebecca and Terry credit their spiritual faith with keeping their families together. Others safeguard their privacy vehemently. In many cases, it’s a combination of approaches.
